The Double Star Quilting Block

The Double Star Quilt block is another beautiful star quilt block.  This one uses the Split Quarter Square Triangle Block to make the star points.

the grids of the Double Star Quilt Block

As you can see from the grids to the left, this block is a simple 9-patch.  You make 4 Split Quarter Square Triangle Blocks, and 5 squares.

Follow the instructions on the link to the Split Quarter Square Triangle Blocks  for the 4 grids with the points, making sure you pay attention value for the star points and background.

You can make the center square either light or dark. In the above picture, the center is made from the background fabric.

If you want to make this block using simple measurements,  it will finish at 6 inches if you cut your squares 2 1/2 inches raw.   There are many easy 9-patch blocks.  Make them all the same size and they will go together beautifully.

Small stars also look great put in the corners of quilts, or worked into the border.  You can also use them for the center block of larger quilt squares.  This is a very versatile block, and very easy once you learn how to make the Split Quarter Square Triangle Block.
